Book Highlight - Echoes of Memories by Samantha LaFantasie

Title: Echoes of Memories
Author: Samantha LaFantasie
Series: Nepherium Series #2
Genre: Adult, Fantasy

Traitor. Liar. That’s what they call me. No one believes me. Not even my team. I know it’s up to me to get the answers. To stop the corruption and unlock my memories. I’ll do anything to get them back. Even if my hands will be covered in blood.

Elsa's every move is scrutinized. She’s labeled a traitor by those she sought for protection, and kept from her family and team. Regaining memories has been a slow process. Too slow for the Council's liking, taking matters into their own hands.

The new captain has history with Elsa and operates with a hidden agenda. Even Elsa’s team reacts differently toward her. If only she could unlock her memories. Everything is playing right into Alexander's hand, even amassing an army with unconventional methods, designed to annihilate the Nepherium—starting with Noah. Elsa will do anything to stop Alexander ... even kill.

Launch
What do you hope readers will take with them when they read this last book in the series?
To me, things really come full circle with the characters, their relationships, and the dilemma of facing their lot in life. I think they've learned a lot, they've definitely been through some trials, but it was nice to give them that sense of understanding and the chance to see how things truly are. They had to either accept it or fight to the end, but it was nice to give them the choice.

Letters from Annie (Douglass) Lima - Chapter One

Heat pulsed through the warehouse, liquid fire pushed by some unseen force. Metal screamed and block crumbled, tearing away every protection she had from the gale. But it was not the light of fire that accompanied the wind, not the brightness of a flame. It was dark beneath the haze of fog.

It was a shadow...

Kelly P's Blog - Chapter One Cont'd
“No,” she whispered. “I’m sorry for what’s about to happen.” She tilted her head, drawing it from beneath his chin to look again at the amber of his eyes, the glow that was within them before suddenly stronger than she’d ever seen it. “I’m sorry for what I’ve set into motion...”

BookSkater - Chapter Two
“I’m ready,” the dark-haired man said, hands fisted at his sides. He was a complete contradiction to his audience, but he didn’t care. He wanted her. He would take her himself. “Let me at her before she has the chance to get any stronger...”

My Life, Loves and Passion - Chapter Three

Aern’s weight shifted, unconsciously moving toward her. He’d known the battle with Morgan was not the end. He’d seen it in Brianna’s eyes, felt it in her apology. They’d set some new chain of events into motion, brought some new fate down on them all...

Prism Book Tours - Chapter Three Cont'd

And here was the more Aern had thought he’d seen in Brianna’s expression. Because she’d known, once she’d found the connections to free herself and Emily, that they were not in place from centuries ago. Those binds, the ones that had kept their powers hidden, were put in place after they’d been born. And the only thing strong enough to do so would have been another shadow...

Book n Blog - Chapter Three Cont'd
“The thing is,” Brianna said, shifting just enough that her admission was directed to both of them, “the thing that doesn’t make sense is that she permitted us to be bound, chose this path for us, brought us to you.” She hesitated, eyes falling first to Aern and then lingering a heartbeat too long on Logan. “Because the shadows are the reason,” she wet her lips, “the ones who took the power from the Seven Lines to begin with.”

Mythical Books - Chapter Three Cont'd
Aern stared at her, everything that he’d learned in his youth rolling through his mind. The Seven Lines had once been powerful, able to do much more than simply use sway. Something had happened, something they’d called a thinning of the blood, that had slowly weakened their powers until no more than this remained. He wanted to not believe her. He wanted to keep thinking the stories they’d been told were true...

Christy's Cozy Corners - Chapter Four
But that slim blonde was gone now, taken when these men had invaded Westlake and destroyed the right half of her body. All that was left of her was the warrior, the daughter of a council elder with the blood of Sky. She was strong. She’d downed seven of their men before they’d strapped her into a truck and drove away from the fire and destruction that was the Division headquarters...

Book-Marks the Spot - Chapter Four Cont'd
His head hung, but he looked at Ellin from beneath his brow, swollen and bruised, cut and bleeding. She could still see the unhealed scars from the day he’d released Morgan. The day he’d tried to save their prophet. He wouldn’t give her now, not any single bit of information that would help them. He would never turn on Brianna...

Simplistic Reviews - Chapter Four Cont'd
He crouched beside her, fingertips rolling over his thumbs, and cocked one brow. “You know the rules Miss Walker. If you want to stop me from hurting Mr. Samuels, you’ll need to give me an answer in return.”

She swallowed against the thickness in her throat, new blood working free of her wounds. Her chest ached, fear and panic and unadulterated adrenaline.

Still, she managed to say, “Please, call me Ellin.”

He laughed. A short, shallow huff of air that said she’d surprised him, but it couldn’t have been true humor...

Wishful Endings - Chapter 5
He sighed. “We can’t leave him to …” He broke off, frustrated at their lack of information, and said, “Whatever he’s doing, Brianna, it’s wrong. We have to find him. He held you captive. He was working with Morgan.” His list stopped as he realized they had the key...

Katie's Clean Book Collection - Chapter 5 Cont'd
Brianna stood as well. “That’s not why you can’t go after him.” She’d been thinking about this for days, since before she’d known about Brendan. Since she’d realized what she and Emily were. She didn’t know if it was right, if it was the plan her mother had laid in place, but she wouldn’t be able to live with doing anything different. She had to protect them...

Nocturnal Predators Reviews - Chapter 5 Cont'd
Her eyes were closed, but she could feel him watching her as his hands stilled. A thumb rolled slowly up the side of her neck and she breathed deep, relaxing into the feel of his fingers as they came higher to trail feather-light over her cheek, her temple, barely brushing her eyelid. Logan's breath came out in what might have been a whisper, and then she felt him move, lips touching hers so gently that she couldn’t resist reaching for him, to pull him closer where he leaned over her...

Mary Terrani.com - Chapter 6
Aern stood in front of Brianna, hands clasped with hers as she searched his connections. He could feel Emily behind him from her spot on the edge of the sofa. He didn’t need to look to imagine her, hands twisted as she watched her sister work to restore some long-gone power within him. The bond was changing, becoming stronger—more real every moment—and it was as if he could sense her distress. This wasn’t some experiment to work toward a vague prophecy. This was Brianna’s last-chance gamble to try and save them from a vision she knew was true, a fight that was coming to them. A war they couldn’t escape...

My Devotional Thoughts - Chapter 6 Cont'd
“We think she’s trying to tell us about Brendan,” Eric said from behind them, his voice quiet.

Aern watched as Ellin’s eye closed tighter. “No,” he said. “Brianna. She’s trying to warn us about Brianna.” A grateful breath escaped her and she opened her eye to close it again, in a long blink. A yes...

His thumb slid over her cheek. “Don’t worry, Ellin. We have her. She’s safe.” Her gaze moved to his, another warning, and he answered, “We know they’re coming for her, but she’s safe...”

The Written Adventure - Chapter 6 Cont'd
“And if they find us?” Eric said.

Aern glanced at the door that Ellin’s cart had disappeared behind, remembering her broken body. As if they had played with her, taken their time. Brianna’s face when she’d described Brendan, when she’d said the others were coming.

His gaze met Eric’s, tone even. “Pray...”

The Wonderings of One Person - Chapter 7
It was time. She was getting stronger, finding her own answers, and it was going to be too late. He couldn’t go to her, the shadows had warned him against that, but there would be no call for issue if Brianna found him. If she initiated the contact. Come to me, Brianna, he thought. Come to me and I will show you why your kind is hiding...

Dalene's Book Reviews - Chapter 8

Logan’s lips pursed. “Hot dogs are over rated.”

She shook her head, shifting so that her denim-covered leg touched his. “You’re cooking them wrong.”

He laughed, turning to see her. “How’s that?”

“You have to smother them in chili and that radioactive-yellow cheese sauce, and then you cover the whole thing with a bag of corn chips...”

Deal Sharing Aunt - Chapter 8 Cont'd
She smirked. “They’re going to be a bit like Morgan, I’m afraid. They’re very proud of their power.” Her eyes went unfocused as she studied the visions, a set of futures where the lesser shadows sought her out. She couldn’t see them, exactly, but she could glimpse the events, knew the way things would unfold. She was hunting in the darkness, searching for bits of light in fog. These shadows weren’t as quick and ruthless, not like the others, but she knew that was coming, too. “Not all of them,” she said. “The men behind this, they aren’t in it for the glory.” She shivered, finding the last of the visions, the scenes too hard to relive. “They only want the outcome...”

Cover Reveal - Breaker by Emma Raveling

CoverReveal_July31 (1)

This is the cover reveal for Breaker by Emma Raveling, the fourth book in the Ondine Quartet, an upper Young Adult Urban Fantasy series.

Breaker

War. Prophecy. Freedom.

She fought for herself. She fought for friendship and love. Now, Kendra Irisavie fights for the survival of her world.

War rages on, leaving no one untouched. Destruction rips through elemental communities and terror flourishes in its wake. Suspicion soars, order fractures, and loyalties crumble despite Kendra’s desperate attempts to protect everyone she holds dear.

When an organized Aquidae army launches a series of merciless assaults, Kendra and her friends set out to end the bloodshed once and for all. With the fate of elementals hanging in balance, the Shadow and sondaleur hunt each other down in a brutal match of cunning and will.

Kendra has trained for this her entire life. But in a ravaged world where trust is scarce and no life is sacred, she soon realizes her battle may be against an invincible enemy and that her darkest days lie ahead.

Twists and turns shape her harrowing odyssey, leading to a stunning climax that challenges everything she believes in.

Torn between destiny and autonomy, Kendra must finally decide whether the cost of freedom is too high.

Heartbreaking decisions, turbulent alliances, and shattering revelations collide in Breaker, the
explosive conclusion to the Ondine Quartet.

Tell us about the covers in this series.

The main novels of the Ondine Quartet (Whirl, Billow,Crest, Breaker) have conceptual covers. Each cover’s imagery captures a particular theme or motif in the book, and the coloring conveys a sense of the story’s mood and emotional arc.

The shorter works/novellas in the series (Ondine,Chevalier, and Warrior Prince) are essentially character portraits and are told through the eyes of different characters in the series. Those covers use models.

The goal for Breaker’s cover was to visually convey high stakes, explosive energy, and a brilliant, sharp intensity. This is the epic finale to the series and everything that has happened in previous books has led to this moment.

Out of all the covers in the series, this one took the most amount of work. My designer and I went back and forth multiple times, going through several drastically different versions before finally arriving at the right
imagery and coloring.

How does it feel to end a series?

It’s bittersweet. A part of me is thrilled to share the end of Kendra’s journey with readers. I’ve had the entire series planned since the very beginning so finally releasing what’s been in my head is a relief.

But the process of writing this final book has been a highly emotional one. There’s a personal attachment to the work itself. I’ve spent countless hours thinking and living with these characters and with this world over the past four years. It’s difficult to bring not only Kendra’s story, but my journey with her story,to an end.

A few easy questions:

Top 3 books?

Only 3?? Argh! There are so many books I love for different reasons and my list of favorites is always changing, depending on what’s going on in my life. Right now, if I had to name three, they’d be:

1. Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy

2. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

3. And of course, the Harry Potter series

Top 5 movies?

1. Aviator

2. Mulholland Drive

3. The Matrix

4. The Breakfast Club

5. Okay, I couldn’t just pick five. So the last one is a tie between The Usual Suspects, Reservoir Dogs, Star Wars (ep. 4-6), and Catch Me If You Can.

Top 5 places in the world you enjoy visiting?
1.New York City
2.Tokyo
3.Paris
4.Kauai Island (Hawaii)
5.Berlin

Top 5 foods?
1.Fresh basil pesto – I’ll add this on anything
2.Sashimi (Japanese-style raw fish)
3.Dark chocolate
4.Jamón ibérico(Spanish ham)
5.And my terrible guilty pleasure: pizza

Christie Rich  About the author: I grew up daydreaming about fairytales, and my love for discovering new worlds has never died. I am not one of those writers who always knew I would write. I thought that was what other people did until one day, a few years ago, I took a challenge from a friend and typed my first words. My journey has been wonderful, and I cannot imagine a day where I would ever give up writing. My love for reading is what fueled my imagination in the first place and still does. When I am not writing or reading, I enjoy family time with my husband and two children. My family and I live in a quiet community in Northern Utah, and I am so thankful for the rich life I have been blessed with.

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

"Welcome to Extraction testing."

Clementine has spent her whole life preparing for her sixteenth birthday, when she’ll be tested for Extraction in the hopes of being sent from the planet Kiel’s toxic Surface to the much safer Core, where people live without fear or starvation. Extraction (Extraction, #1)Extraction by Stephanie Diaz
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

First, I would like to thank the author Stephanie Diaz for giving me this book for an honest review. I enjoyed this book, the moon/space aspect was good, but there are a lot of similarities to many other books in the dystopian genre. The characters are well developed and written. The world building is good. The story-line is good, but like I already mentioned to many similarities to other books in the genre. I am looking forward to reading the next book.

Mature readers only. 18+

My phone rings, it’s not even seven in the morning. Nathan. Ugh, what does he want? It’s too early to argue. “Hello?”

“Get Dillan ready, I’ll be there in two hours.” And the line goes dead.

Are you fucking kidding me? No. Dillan had me up half of the night. I’m sleeping and I’m going to remain this way until he wakes me up again. Screw you and your orders.

Besides, my eyes won’t stay open long enough for me to get out of bed.

I let out a startled choke when the blanket is pulled from my body, disturbing me from my pleasant dreams that I no longer remember. “What the hell?” I blink away my blurred vision and glare at a scowling Nathan. He’s looming over me in a way that tells me he probably wants to throttle me right now. “I could have been naked.” I practically am in only a top and knickers.

“I called you two hours ago, only to find you still sleeping?” He scoffs and walks over to the cot where Dillan is now awake and crying, probably from my sudden screech of fear.

“I don’t remember a call,” I lie and sit up, my hands immediately begin rubbing my eyes. Wait… “How did you get in?”

“I knocked, your mum answered.”

“Oh. It’s nine in the morning, why are you wearing a suit?” Not that he doesn’t look good. He really does.

“Could you get up and pack his things? I’ll bring him back on Monday.”

“I never agreed to the length of time or you even picking him up. Not to mention the fact I don’t have a number to contact you. Which makes me feel very uneasy.” I stand, not feeling modest in the slightest. “I’m going to have a shower.”

“I have places I need to be,” he snaps and my anger at his tone peaks, “Then you shouldn’t be taking Dillan!”

“I’ll get him ready myself.”

“You do that,” I say around a yawn and pull open the door. “I’ll be about fifteen minutes. I want to say goodbye before he leaves.”

His jaw clenches but he remains silent, which I’m eternally grateful for.

I take my time showering, just to be awkward. I also take my time getting dressed and drying my hair, again… just to be awkward.

“Today would be nice, Guinevere!” Nathan calls up the stairs, making me snigger. Why am I pushing him?

After making him wait another ten minutes, I finally make my way downstairs. He’s sitting on the couch with Dillan on his chest, looking casual and content. Well, as casual as one can look in an expensive suit. “Sorry it took me so long.” No I’m not. Not in the slightest.

Nathan lifts Dillan up and over his face, making him smile and gurgle. “She’s not is she? Not at all. She’s silently laughing at me.” His voice is high and happy, I love it when he speaks to Dillan like this. “Mummy is mean, yes she is.” Uh-oh.

“Puke face,” I say with a wince but it’s too late.

I'm 23 and I’ve been writing since I could hold a pen in my hand! I love to write, it’s my passion, and I never stop. In fact I love to write so much I have started over one hundred and fifty different books before finally completing my first ever novel 'A Little Bit of Crazy' which I published in May 2013 on Amazon for Kindle. I was grateful when I received feedback as it helps me be a better writer.

When I'm not writing, I love spending time with my family and when I get some spare time (not easy with young children!) it’s either reading or listening to music. You won’t find me without a book or my Kindle in my hand. I read whilst I’m cooking, cleaning, talking, walking… you could say reading is my other passion!

Q&A with A.E. Murphy

Q:  Do you have any strange writing habits (like standing on your head or writing in the shower)?

A:  I once wrote across my partner’s chest. I was taking notes when he snatched my notebook and threw it across the room, all I had was a pen. It was either his chest or his face. I needed to get down what was in my head before I forgot. Other than that I’m pretty normal.

Q:  What song would be the theme to your life?

A:  Oooh, I genuinely have no idea, but it would have to be really cool and dramatic so that when I walk into a room everybody sees me do it in slow motion. I’d remove my sun glasses and flip my hair over my shoulder before giving a chin dip to a passing stranger.

Q:  If you were a superhero, what would your name be and what super power would you have?

A:  My super power would be to absorb books. Definitely. Then whatever books I absorbed, I’d be able to bring the characters to life and I’d absorb the powers of my choice from said books too. That would be amazing. I’d call myself, Paige Turner and my superhero name would be, Liber Libri. This means book in Latin. Everything sounds better in Latin. I’m totally copyrighting this idea right now! (Inspiration comes from the weirdest places).

Q:  If you were a book heroine, who would you be?

A:  Paige Turner aka Liber Libri, I haven’t written this yet but when I do, I so want to be her.

Q:  Tell us about Nathan.

A:  Nathan is a complex man who was raised by his grandfather. Due to a bad upbringing and negligent parents, he’s got a few quirks that set him apart from most men. I think he’s just desperate to love and be loved. Desperate to accept and be accepted. Desperate to find normal and be normal. I think this is pretty much what everybody wants, but with Nathan, because he’s not had any of that, it’s harder for him to find and harder for him to deal with when he does find it. Therefore no matter how frustrating he can get, just remember he’s dealing. Or trying to at least.

The Incubus Saga by Amanda Meuwissen

Title: Changeling
Author:  Amanda Meuwissen
Genre: Gay Paranormal Romance

Nathan Grier’s dark fae bounty looms overhead. As he faces the very real threat of becoming a slave to the bounty’s owner, his brother Jim uses his changeling abilities more and more trying to save him. Every changeling throughout history turns evil once their powers manifest, meaning time may be running out for both of them as Jim nears True Awakening.
Fae hunter and incubus, Sasha Kelly, is prophesized to save Nathan, but while Nathan has embraced his feelings for the other man, he fears their time together will be cut short—either from his impending fate…or Jim’s.

Excerpt:

“You have…what?  Less than thirty years life experience?  And you think you can beat almost two-hundred?” Faust sneered.
He had an arm hooking both of Nathan’s arms behind him, which made Nathan’s eyes water with the pressure on his injured shoulder. All of Faust’s weight was centered on a leg that was thrown over Nathan to keep him pinned to the floor.
“When you’ve seen what I’ve seen, touched magic and fae as much as I have, you start seeing everything differently,” Faust said. “Like being able to recognize a succubus and fool her senses.  Or weave tapestries of memory just to steal a few meager years.  The Veil is coming to an end, boy, and only an immortal will be able to keep up with the dark fae once they retake this world. They already have everything in motion. The chosen changeling has already been tapped. It is only a matter of time.”
Nathan felt a chill run through his body at the mention of the ‘chosen changeling’. His sore shoulder was screaming in pain, and he knew he was being self-conscious of the wounds on his chest, which was slowing him down.
“Ah, but you…I knew there was something about you,” Faust continued. “The house wouldn’t have taken you even if you had chosen the other door like your friends.  Because the thing is…” Faust’s voice fell to a whisper beside Nathan’s ear, “…you can’t steal life from the damned.”

Title: Incubus
Author:  Amanda Meuwissen
Genre: Gay Paranormal Romance

Nathan only ever wanted a normal life, but for him, life, family, and love are anything but normal.
On the other side of the Veil, dark and light fae exist outside the knowledge of most humans. Nathan Grier was born human, but his twin brother Jim is a changeling. On the run since they were children, time for both of them is running out. Turning to fae hunter Sasha Kelly for help, Nathan must soon face his growing feelings for the other man while trying to save himself and his brother from a fate worse than death.

Excerpt:

Nathan Grier hit the ground hard on his hands and knees, gasping for breath. Traveling through the Veil with Jim had always been so effortless. Nathan had forgotten how much his brother’s presence protected him. Without Jim, even a brief trip just hurt everywhere.
Pushing up from the ground and sitting back on his heels, Nathan gulped down air to steady his pulse. He looked around quickly, taking in the dark landscape. It was still night but there was light steadily growing on the horizon.
He did not have much time.
Nathan struggled to his feet and took a few pained steps forward to the edge of the cliff. Below was St. Brides Bay, empty of divers and kayaks at this early hour. Normally, Nathan would be able to clearly see the lush green hills, steep drop-offs, and spattering of flowers that had not yet died with the growing autumn cold, but for now the world was covered in darkness.
He pulled his jacket more tightly around him, swallowing hard as he peered down the long expanse to the beach below. The wind was whipping harshly through his short black hair as if it desired nothing more than to see him blown right over the edge.
Turning back to the Veil doorway he had come from, Nathan saw that it was no longer visible, though he knew it was still there. He had crossed the ocean in search of a Power Point strong enough to summon a Messenger. The doorway was where the Messenger would appear.
