Inspiration behind the series
I’m about to tell you something that few people know. And the ones that do, think I’m crazy or making it up. This book, this entire series, came about from a Daughtry song. Yep, that’s right, one song sparked an entire series. Actually, to be fair, the song inspired one scene in one book and the rest of the series developed from there.
I was actually working on another book and listening to music, as I do, when the song came on. Instantly, a fully formed scene popped into my head in vivid color. It was like looking at a scene from a movie. It wasn’t the whole scene, just a snippet, but it was enough.
The song if you’re wondering is All These Lives. I won’t tell you the scene it inspired, but if you read the second book (which comes out in the spring) you can probably figure it out. If not, I might let the secret out after the release. Anyway, I started to write the book that went with that scene and quickly realized that I was writing the wrong book. There were things that needed to happen before that book started. So I backed up and started book one.
I like strong female characters and men that are alpha without being controlling jerks. So I started there and quickly created Juliana and Thomas who are, at their core, just two people that have made mistakes and are paying the price for that. They are hurting and angry and so perfect for each other I smile every time they’re on the page together. Their story is what led the rest of the series when I plotted it out. Oh, don’t get me wrong. It’s not all about them, but they are the heart of the books. How they interact with their world and what happens in it is what makes the series interesting.
And if it’s not interesting, what’s the point in reading it in the first place?

Most people don't know the horrors she endured at the hands of the vampire he left in command.
