Excerpts:
He watched her in amusement as she tried biting into a burger that was almost as big as her head. She kept turning the burger in different positions trying to find a place where she could bite into it without making a huge mess on her face. Ahmad laughed.
“Baby, just cut it in half. You’ll find an easier way to bite it then,” he said, still laughing. Camille stuck her tongue out at him.
“I’m a big girl, I can handle this burger,” she said and took a bite out of it. Ketchup, mayonnaise and tomato all slipped out of the other end of the sandwich, most of it ending up on her hands. He was now laughing uncontrollably as he passed her a few napkins. She grinned and kicked him under the table as she retrieved the napkin to clean herself up.
He took this time to soak up his woman’s beauty. Her thick, natural curly hair hung loosely around her shoulders, with a few curls cradling her face, making her look sweet and innocent. Her big brown eyes were what drew him to her when he first met her. It were those kind of eyes that made you want to protect and love the person they belonged to. Then there were those sexy, deep dimples she had when she smiled that made his heart beat a little faster. Her body was nice, slim and petite, perfect for his tall athletic build. He loved everything about this woman. She was perfect.
“What are you staring at? Do I still have something on my face?” she panicked, digging into her purse for her compact mirror. He smiled and shook his head.
“You’re all good, Cammy. Don’t worry you look beautiful. I meant to tell you that I love how that sundress is hugging your body,” he said and licked his lips. She blushed. She knew that this was his favorite sundress of hers and she also knew that when he got home, he would waste no time peeling it off of her.
“Well thank you, baby. I wore it especially for you since we actually had time to eat together today. What time are you getting off? Are you coming to my place afterwards or are you going home?” she asked, taking another bite of her burger. He looked at his watched and saw that it was already 3 pm.
“I get off at seven, but I have to swing by my house to make sure everything’s okay there. If I’m not too tired, I can come to your place tonight,” he said, rubbing his hand down his face. Camille nodded and tried to swallow the remaining food in her mouth.
“Baby, if you’re going to be tired, I can stay at your place and you can just drop me off at class on your way to work. It’ll be a little early, but I don’t want to sleep alone tonight,” she said, giving him a seductive smile. He licked his lips and grinned.
“Okay, that sounds like a plan. But I got to get back to work, babe. I’m already late,” he said as he flagged the waitress down to get the check. Camille nodded and continued to eat. She hated when they had to separate. At least she had her homework to keep her busy or else she’d lose her mind. She didn’t want to complain about the lack of time they were spending together; she could already tell that he was stressed and frustrated about work and she didn’t want to add to it.
Once the bill was paid and the food was in take-out boxes, they walked hand and hand to his car. He opened the passenger door for her and closed it behind her.
“So where am I taking you to?” he asked, climbing into the driver’s seat. She shrugged. She didn’t have anywhere else to go.
“I guess I’ll go home and organize my notes I have so far. I have a paper due soon,” she sighed and stared out of the window. They drove to her apartment in silence. He reached over and took one of her hands into his and kissed the top of it.
“I promise I’ll try to get a day off this week and you can have me all day,” he said softly, sealing his promise. She looked at him and smiled.
“Okay. Hopefully they’ll let you off. You seem to be in high demand. Your clients see you more than I do,” she said and pouted. He glanced at her pouty lips and shook his head.
“Stop looking so pouty and mad. You know I find that very sexy about you,” he said and grinned, squeezing her hand tighter. She gave him a small smile and turned her attention back to the passing scenery outside her window.
When he got to her apartment, he walked her to her door. He could sense her sadness although she was trying to pretend nothing was wrong.
“Cammy, I promise I’ll do my best to spend some time with you tonight. I know you miss me and I miss you just as much. But in order for us to prepare for a life together, you know we need the money. I want you to focus on school. Just be patient with me, okay?” he asked, caressing her cheek to bring her attention back to him. She nodded and walked into his embrace, hugging him tightly. He lifted her chin and kissed her passionately, making sure she felt the love that flowed through him for her. “I love you, girl,” he whispered when he let her go.
“I love you too, baby,” she said breathlessly. He waited until she was safely inside before he returned to his car and headed back to work.
My Review: July 28th ~ Review Copies ~
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
First I would like to thank the author Victoria Bright for giving me this book for an honest review. I have to say if you want reality, you get a good dose of it with this book, we have Camille who has been through a lot and is stronger for it. You have Ahmed who is a personal trainer who has to decide if his love for Camille is strong enough to change his single status. Ahmed always has some female wanting to try for him. Camille gets a new study partner who becomes way to obsessed. Its a book that makes you angry and much more. It's also about relationships and how important trust and communication are in a relationship. Nothing and no one is perfect and this book shows us a harsher truth to that fact.
