Interview
1) First, tell us
about yourself – where you live, your family, and those sorts of details.
Despite the penname, we’re actually a writing duo. Long time
partners and co-authors, we live on a cold, icy rock in the North Atlantic.
It’s there we shelter from the wind and snow by writing about fantastical tales
of heart warming and tumultuous romance. It’s just the family of two authors,
loving each other and our craft for well over a decade.
2) How long have you
been writing?
We’ve both been writing since we were little kids! Though we
began writing together shortly after we first met online, long aeons ago. We
did some fanfiction work in our early days together, but our true love has
always been creating our own fantasy or scifi worlds together.
3) Do you have a
favorite place to write?
We have a lovely dual-desk setup where we do the bulk of our
writing. Though for those times when we’re away, or the icy wrath of the
heavens knocks out our power, we have a laptop and tablet-with-keyboard.
4) Why did you
decide to write Magic Academy?
We wanted to get back to our roots of writing long, involved
romance, between very complicated characters in turmoil. All the ideas for how
to do that just sort of came together. The corrupting demon, the ambitious
young woman from humble origins, the characters were there and as we talked
about it the plot just continued to grow and entangle until we knew we had to
write it all down!
5) Who is your
favorite character in your book and why?
Varuj. The suave and cunning demon. He’s a beautiful man with
an agenda only he’s aware of. He’s charming and smooth with the main character
Firia, helping her along her ambitious path. Power radiates from him and only
he knows its true extent.
6) How about your
least favorite character? What makes
them less appealing to you?
Varuj again! He’s a devil-horned monster! A devious trickster
with some dark ends in mind, and all the character’s around him have no idea as
to the extent to which he’s pulling the strings. He’s manipulative and
silver-tongued, forceful and mean. If we ran into such a person in real life we’d
be sickened with him!
7) Do you
proofread/edit your own books or do you get someone to do that for you?
We do and we do! We’re a two person team, and that’s two sets
of eyes to go over and edit our work. But once that’s done we also send it off
to a professional editor before returning to us for final review.
8) What do you like
to do when you’re not writing?
Exercise, read, watch movies and game. We’re big lovers of
tabletop and video games! Though we don’t have much time for it anymore, we always
loved playing co-operatively and achieving virtual greatness together as a
team. With our hectic schedule these days, and our push to remain healthy with
good, hearty home made meals and lots of exercise, there’s not much time for
that stuff.
9) Do you read much and if so who are your
favorite authors?
We’ve always been big readers,
since we were very, very young. We enjoy reading the work of fantasy
writers like Lisa Smedman, Elaine Cunningham and Barb and J.C. Hendee.
10) What question do
you wish that someone would ask about your book, but nobody has? Write it out
here, and then answer it.
This ones a hard one because this is a project we’ve mostly
kept underwraps! So we haven’t had a lot of questions on it other than from the
advanced reviewers who all asked the same one - when is the second coming out?
So one question I can think of that no one has asked (yet) is
“Can we cut you a movie deal?” To which the answer is “let us think upon it,
and we will get back to you.”

My Review: January 2014 ~ Review Copies ~
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
First, I would like to thank the author Jillian Keep for giving me this book for an honest review. I loved reading this book, the world building was amazing. The characters are well developed and you can find yourself rooting for the bad guy. What to do, what to do, the story is fun and I am looking forward to reading more, I am not sure, but I do hope the authors are writing a series because I am left wanting more. :)
