The Frost Series by Liz DeJesus

Character Bio

Bianca Frost: She’s a seventeen year old girl that works at the Museum of Magical and Rare Artifacts with her mother Rose Frost. She recently found out that she’s the great-great-great granddaughter of Snow White. Her favorite color is dark purple, she loves punk rock and indie music. Her favorite book is Jane Eyre and she loves to draw. She hopes to go to college and become an art major. Her best friend is Ming Lee and the love of her life is Terrance Connor.

Ming Lee: She’s seventeen years old and her best friend in the whole wide world is Bianca Frost. Her father is a surgeon and her mother, Mrs..Lee is a stay  at home mom. Ming loves pop music and her favorite color is pink (every single shade of pink is her favorite). She’s an accomplished singer and loves to play the piano in her spare time. Her dream is to become a famous singer. She has a bit of a crush on Prince Ferdinand and she’s trying to figure out how she really feels about him.

Terrance Connor: He is eighteen years old and is a steward for the royal family in Everafter. He’s often quiet and reserved but once you get to know him you will discover that he’s very intelligent and charming. His parents are William and Claire Connor. His grandfather is Magnus Connor aka The Big Bad Wolf. Trust me, this makes for a very complicated family dynamic. He has a great love for Bianca Frost, who he believes is his soul mate.

Prince Ferdinand: His full name is Prince Ferdinand Anthony Charles
Ash and he is the future king of Everafter. He is a kind and charming prince who is in the constant search for damsels in distress, adventure and true love. Sometimes he comes across a bit silly and goofy but his heart is true and pure. He has grown and matured since  his first adventure in First Frost but he’s still light hearted and fun no matter what situation he’s in. He’s madly in love with Ming Lee.

Rose Frost: She is Bianca’s mother and the owner of the Museum of Magical and Rare Artifacts. Rose has been hiding the fact that she and Bianca are witches. Rose’s main magical talents are healing and plant related. She can grow any type of plant under any conditions. She is extremely protective over her daughter Bianca and anyone she holds close to her heart.

Blurb-

Fairytales aren’t real…yeah…that’s exactly what Bianca thought. She was wrong.

For generations, the Frost family has run the Museum of Magical and Rare Artifacts, handing down guardianship from mother to daughter, always keeping their secrets to “family only.”

Gathered within museum’s walls is a collection dedicated to the Grimm fairy tales and to the rare items the family has acquired: Cinderella’s glass slipper, Snow White’s poisoned apple, the evil queen’s magic mirror, Sleeping Beauty’s enchanted spinning wheel…

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Frost wants none of it, dreaming instead of a career in art or photography or…well, anything except working in the family’s museum. She knows the items in the glass display cases are fakes because, of course, magic doesn’t really exist.

She’s about to find out how wrong she is.

Can you share the playlist you listened to while writing ‘First Frost’ with us?

I listened to A LOT of Mumford and Sons while I was writing First Frost. So you can basically put their first album on this list. And if you have no idea who this band is then you have to check them out. They’re AMAZING. Also Imogen Heap, I’m a HUGE fan of hers. I’d listen to her any time of the day. She just has a way to put me in a dream-like state and it makes it easy for me to write.

That having been said I’ll share the top ten songs I listened to while I worked on First Frost:

1. First Train Home by Imogen Heap
2. Little Bird by Imogen Heap
3. Between Sheets by Imogen Heap
4. 2 - 1 by Imogen Heap
5. Aha! by Imogen Heap
6. Canvas by Imogen Heap
7. The Cave by Mumford and Sons
8. Timshel by Mumford and Sons
9. Thistel and Weeds by Mumford and Sons
10. Enchanted by Taylor Swift

I know it’s not a lot of variety but it’s the only way to get me to write sometimes. The music helps me get to a certain mind set. Especially if it’s music that I know my characters would listen to.

Can you share your idea of the perfect soundtrack to ‘First Frost’ with us?

1. Ripchord by Rilo Kiley. Mostly because that’s where Bianca is emotionally.

2. Ballroom Blitz by The Sweet. This song definitely lets you know what kind of music Bianca likes. This would probably be her go-to song, something that will cheer her up when she’s sad or having a bad day.

3. Enchanted by Taylor Swift. This is the song I think about when I think of Bianca and Terrance together. It definitely was love at first sight and they are crazy about each other. They’re definitely in it for the long run. :)

4. Can’t Take It In by Imogen Heap. I’m pretty sure this song was playing while I was describing Everafter.

5. The Cave by Mumford & Sons.

6. 2-1 by Imogen Heap

7. Timshel by Mumford & Sons.  This song makes me think of Rose while she’s in the dungeon waiting to be rescued.

8. Little Bird by Imogen Heap. It reminds me of Old Woman, a character that appeared in the fairy tale The True Bride.

9. Thistle and Weeds by Mumford and Sons

10. Set the Fire to the Third Bar by Snow Patrol featuring Martha Wainwright. Makes me think of Terrance and Bianca where towards the end of the book they have to say goodbye to each other.

Blurb-

When joined together, Cinderella's slippers grant the wearer her heart's desire. But whose wish will be granted?

When Cinderella’s glass slipper is stolen, Queen Felicia sends her faithful steward Terrance to the real world to retrieve his love and witch-in-training, Bianca Frost. The power of the glass slipper, when paired with its mate, and in the wrong hands, could ruin the peace of Everafter. Bianca must gather every bit of magic she has learned in the past few weeks to find the slipper and protect her new love. Together, Bianca, Ming, Prince Ferdinand, and Terrance venture deep into the heart of Everafter to seek clues as to who has stolen the slipper and why. Along the way, they uncover what happened to the Seven Dwarves after Snow White married the prince, but also learn the awful risk of tampering with black magic and the high price that must be paid for magic, even when used for good.

Bianca and Terrance’s relationship is put to the test. Through the pain of suffering and loss, Bianca must determine if following her gallant boyfriend into his faraway world is in fact her heart's desire.

Can you share the playlist you listened to while writing ‘Glass Frost’ with us?

Last year while I was thinking about how to start writing Glass Frost, I was listening to "The Catalyst" by Linkin Park. I hadn’t written a single word yet, but as I listened to this song I had a clear image of Bianca crawling out of a pit. I was driving at the time (which is a dangerous thing to do if you have my brain because I literally go somewhere else when I’m writing) and I just burst into tears. I wanted to know what happened that made Bianca fall into that dark place. How was she supposed to get out of there? Why wasn’t there someone there to help her? So that was another plot point that I could reach.

Like memories in cold decay
Transmissions echoing away
Far from the world of you and I
Where oceans bleed into the sky
Lift me up, Let me go...

It was that particular part of the song that just got to me for some reason. I can’t wait for you all to read that scene in the book. I hate torturing my characters, but sometimes that’s the only way they will learn and grow.

Here’s another list of songs I was listening to while I wrote Glass Frost.

1. Enchanted by Taylor Swift
2. I’m Shipping Up to Boston by The Dropkick Murphys
3. 2-1 by Imogen Heap
4. Glittering Cloud by Imogen Heap
5. Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap

Did I mention that I love Imogen Heap? LOL I do! She’s my favorite singer/songwriter.

6. Set the Fire to the Third Bar by Snow Patrol (featuring Martha Wainwright)
7. The Last Time by Taylor Swift (featuring Gary Lightbody)
8. A Sorta Fairytale by Tori Amos
9. Vitamin String Quartet Performs Imogen Heap
10. Stolen by Dashboard Confessional

Can you share your idea of the perfect soundtrack to ‘Glass Frost’ with us?

1. Just Say Yes by Snow Patrol. Terrance comes back for Bianca and asks her to go back to Everafter with him. LOL All you want to do at that moment is scream ‘Say yes!’ to Bianca. :D

2. A Sorta Fairytale by Tori Amos

3. Stolen by Dashboard Confessional

4. I’m Shipping Up to Boston by Dropkick Murphys. Something bad happens to Bianca (can’t say....spoilers) but she learns a very harsh lesson in karma.

5. Just for Now by Imogen Heap. This is a nice song for the chapters they’re visiting the dwarves.

6. The Catalyst by Linkin Park.  This was the song that actually inspired me to write Glass Frost in the first place. There’s a scene in the book where Bianca falls into a dark pit and has to find a way out.

7. Everything Has Changed by Taylor Swift. Listen to the lyrics. It’s definitely a Bianca and Terrance song.

8. Not Like the Movies by Katy Perry. This song is definitely for Rebekah aka The Frog Queen.

9. Wide Awake by Katy Perry. Bianca definitely does a lot of growing up in this book. This song fits her perfectly. :)
