An Impossible Mate by Joy Lynn Fielding

An Impossible Mate

BLURB:

Loner Matt Urban has somehow ended up as alpha to a pack of outcasts and misfits.  When Jesse Turner, a scruffy stranger with a bad attitude, turns up on his doorstep one night, Matt’s blindsided to discover he and Jesse are mates. He’s still coming to terms with the realization when a hostile alpha claims Jesse as his own.

Excerpt

Matt was some considerable way through the Blue Oyster’s stock of whisky when a hat was laid down on the table in front of him. He blinked at it, confused. He hadn’t ordered a hat, had he? Nope, whisky didn’t sound like hat in any language he knew. And then he blinked his way up from the hat to find Bryce sitting down opposite him. Oh. Figured.

“Matt.” Bryce didn’t sound pissed the way he usually was when Matt drank. He sounded gentle, and Matt didn’t like that. He was Matt Urban, not one of Bryce’s lame ducks.

“What the hell do you want, Bryce?”

“I was wondering what you’re doing sitting here, rather than out there solving Elk Ridge’s sudden crime spree.”

“Lunch break,” Matt said succinctly, raising his glass and draining it.

“And the fact you’re more drunk than I’ve seen you in five years has nothing to do with that scrawny-assed, cantankerous kid back at the ranch.”

“Jesse’s ass ain’t scrawny,” Matt shot back, then frowned. Damn it, Jesse had got Matt talking like him. “And he’s not a kid, either.”

“Jesse’s not a kid the way Tristan is,” Bryce agreed. “I reckon he’s seen more than most. But the thing is, he is a kid in other ways. What is he, twenty-one? He knows nothing about shifters, and suddenly finding out he’s mate to a brooding, bossy bastard—”

“Hey,” Matt objected, but no one was listening to him.

“He probably doesn’t know which way’s up right now. The last thing he needs is you going on a tear. He’ll run, Matt, if you don’t do this right, and you’ll have lost him.”

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Joy Lynn Fielding is a sucker for happy endings. She believes, however, that if characters don’t suffer along the way, they won’t fully appreciate being happy. Not all of her characters thank her for this viewpoint, but what do they know?

Joy lives in a small English market town. She has a tendency to share enthusiastically with anyone who will listen to the latest fascinating facts she’s stumbled across in her research for books. Thankfully she has a very patient Labrador, who has a gift for looking as though he’s interested in what she’s saying while he waits for the food to arrive.

My Reviews:  December 12, 2013   ~ Review Copies ~

An Impossible Mate (Strength of the Pack #1)An Impossible Mate by Joy Lynn Fielding
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

First, I would like to thank the author Joy Lynn Fielding for giving me this book for an honest review. I liked the various characters, they each had their own personality, their antics were quite amusing to down right funny at times. I would have liked a bit more background, but other than that the story flowed quite nicely.
