See How She Runs by Michelle Graves Blog Tour & Giveaway

Interview:

1)      First, tell us about yourself – where  you live, your family, and those sorts of details.

MG:  I am in the process of moving from Washington to Georgia right now.  My husband is an Army Infantryman, so we don’t stay in one place for very long.  As for the husband, well I married my best friend.  I am one of those lucky girls that found that long lasting love we all dream of.  He is the best thing that ever happened to me.  Aside from the husband, I have an amazing daughter we call Squish.  She is the bright spot in each and every day.  Her imagination and love of life keep me looking at the world in wide eyed wonder.

2)      How long have  you been writing?

MG:  Probably my entire life.  I used to make up stories as a child.  As a teen, I turned to poetry to vent my angst.  As an adult, I fell in love with reading.  Writing a novel was the next natural progression.

3)      Do you have a favorite place to write?

MG:  I write all over the place.  In a chair, in my bed, at the kitchen table.  It is just wherever the mood strikes me.

4)      Why did you decide to write See How She Runs?

MG:  The characters wouldn’t leave me alone.  They became insistent that I write their story.  I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t eat, heck I couldn’t even use the bathroom in peace.  The only way to get it out of my system was to sit down and finally write the book.

5)      Who is your favorite character in your book and why?

MG:  Izzy.  She is a lot of who I am and a lot of who I wish I could be.  She is strong, full of moxie, and sassy to boot.  I love her optimism and her ability to put the past behind her and move forward.  I hope I can be as strong as her some day.

6)      How about your least favorite character?  What makes them less appealing to you?

MG:  Xavier.  He is the ultimate villain.  His greed makes him turn against the things he was born to stand for.  He is just unlikeable.

7)      Do you proofread/edit your own books or do you get someone to do that for you?

MG:  I do a rough edit of my own book, then I send it off to the brilliant Neeley Bratcher to do the serious stuff.  I am terrible at comma placement and I have a tendency to overuse words.  She makes editing less painful!

8)      What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

MG:  I have been accused of impersonating Martha Stewart from time to time.  I am addicted to crafting, sewing, baking, and all things creative.  I also love to go on adventures.  Whether it be a day trip to somewhere I don’t know, a hike, or a camping trip…. I am in heaven.  Oh, and then there is my slightly out of control addiction to Doctor Who.

9)      Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors?

MG:  I read all of the time when I am not writing.  Right now my favorite authors are Penny Reid, Molly Harper, Rae Carson, R.L. Naquin, and Meljean Brook.

10)   What do you hope people take away from See How She Runs?

MG:  I hope that when people finish reading See How She Runs, they realize they have a choice about how they live their lives.  We can either let the events of our lives hold us back or we can accept them and move forward.  I hope that people feel a sense of empowerment when they are done with the story.
